Yihui Ding, China Meteorological
Adminstration
Prof. Ding Yihui is a noted
scientist in the area of the atmospheric science and climate change in China as
well as over the world, with much contribution to many important international
programs and activities. From 1997-2001, he was a co-chair of Working Group 1
of IPCC. Under his and Dr. J. Houghton’s (another co-chair ) leadership, the
Third Assessment Report for Climate Change 2001: Basic Science was completed with
5-yr concerted endeavor. He was the member of JSC of WCRP for 1957-2003 and the
chairman of East Asian Monsoon Research Committee of WMO. He plays an outstanding role in many
Chinese projects and activities. He is also well-known scientist in both China
and world, with his wide knowledge and outstanding contributions to research
and prediction of the Asian monsoon, heavy rainfalls in East Asian, typhoon
formation over the West-Pacific, the climate change in China and development
of regional climate models. He received
the 2nd class State Natural Science Prize, HLHL Science and Technology Progress
Prize, 1stclass and 2nd State Science and Technology Progress Prize, WMO Award
for outstanding work in the field of climate prediction, climate change and monsoon
climatology, now the vice- chair of National Expert Committee on
Climate Change, and the special advisor of China Meteorological Administration. He is the academician of Chinese Academy of Engineerings(CAE).
