The following are some information from our Local Organizing Committee:

Upon consultation with the Immigration Department and Personnel Office at the university, below please find the information for your reference.

1.      All the speakers and participants are invited to attend the 6th International Conference on Atmosphere, Ocean and Climate Change under the agreement that “Such activities will not involve the fulfillment of an agreement for the provision of services and/or discharge of professional duties”. Therefore, a Visit Visa could serve the purpose (i.e. Employment/Business visa is not applicable). For more information, please visit the Immigration Department’s website (http://www.immd.gov.hk/en/faq/visit-transit.html).

2.      As advised by the immigration officer, if a visitor holds a Chinese Passport or US Travel Document, he/she will need to submit an application form (ID1003A) and the local sponsor (CUHK) will fill in the form ID1003B. However, if the he/she holds a US Passport, no application form is required. The immigration officer also advised to consult the Chinese diplomatic and consular mission for individual case as US green card provides a spectrum of residence/employment clauses.

3.      Upon consultation, the most efficient way to apply for the Visit Visa is to mail the application forms (ID1003A and ID1003B), together with the supporting documents, with a cashier order or a bank draft (payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”) to the Immigration Office by the applicant. A scan copy of the signed ID1003B form is enclosed. We should be most grateful for your advice on the mailing address and we will send out the original form via registered mail right away.

The necessary documents and other information is summarized as below:

·         Forms/Documents Required for application of visit visa:

o   Application for Entry for Visit/Transit in Hong Kong (ID1003A)

o   Applicant’s recent photograph (affixed on page 1 of the ID1003A)

o   Photocopy of the travel document (passport) containing personal particulars, date of issue, date of expiry and/or details of any re-entry visa held (if applicable)

o   Photocopy of the proof of financial standing e.g. bank statements, saving accounts passbooks, tax receipts, etc. and proof of employment (if any), e.g. company leave letter, salary slips, etc.

o   Photocopy of proof of transportation arrangement, e.g. flight itinerary

o   Photocopy of the proof of the proposed visit to Hong Kong (i.e. the invitation letter)

o   A cashier order or a bank draft issued by a bank which has a connected bank in the HKSAR and made  payable to “The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region”

o   ID1003B completed by the sponsor

·         The immigration officer advised if the application forms and supporting documents could be sent by fax to (852) 2824-1133, the processing time could be shortened. But the visa will only be issued on receipt of original and properly completed visa application forms.

·         Application forms and supporting documents should be sent to:

Receipt and Despatch Unit

Hong Kong Immigration Department
