Topics include:

  • Climate dynamical processes (Tropical, mid-latitude and polar regions)
  • Climate nodes of variability (Monsoon; East Asian monsoon, MJO, ENSO, IDO, AMO, IPO, AO, AAO, etc)
  • Climate extremes

3.       Severe Weather and Meso-scale

Conveners: Yuqing Wang, Ming Xue, Zhiyong Meng, Xiaopeng Cui

Topics include:

  • Analyses and prediction of severe storms
  • Tropical Cyclones
  • Mesoscale convection systems
  • Heat waves
  • Smog

4.       Climate Modeling

Topics include:

  • Climate model development;
  • Climate model verification;
  • Climate model prediction and projection;
  • Observational datasets for model verification (Obs4Mips);
  • CMIP6 evaluation

5.       Climate Reanalysis

Conveners: Xingren Wu, Jianjun Xu, Xudong Liang

Topics include:

  • Development and analyses of climate reanalysis
  • Evaluation of the state, utilization, limitation and potential utility of the current reanalysis
  • Data assimilation technique
  • Examine reanalysis products for potential improvements
  • Review of new development in climate reanalysis

6.       Ocean Process and Climate

  • Surface and deep ocean observations and analyses;

7.       Air Pollution, Aerosol, and Climate

  • Modeling of the transport and transformation of gaseous pollutants and aerosol particles
  • Aerosol-cloud-climate interactions from observation to global climate simulation

8.      Integrative Monsoon Frontal Rainfall Experiment (IMFRE)

Conveners: Chunguang Cui, Xiquan Dong, Yi Deng, Yunfei Fu, Peiren Li

Topics include:

  • Multi-source observations of Meiyu clouds and precipitation properties
  • Dynamics and thermodynamics of Meiyu precipitation including its moisture budget
  • Model simulations of the multi-scale structure and precipitation of the Meiyu frontal system
