COAA 2004 Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting opened with a report by the COAA President, Dr. Joe Huang, on this past year’s accomplishments, which include sponsoring meetings, updating the bylaws, and developing a financial operational guideline. Dr. Huang strongly encouraged more senior COAA members to participate in networking and tutoring and stressed the unique position of COAA as a bridge between scientists in the U.S. and the Chinese homeland.
The COAA Treasurer, Dr. Chung-Lin Shie, spoke about the financial operational guidelines that were recently enacted by the the Board to guide spending when cosponsoring meetings with other professional organizations. The guideline was unanimously approved by the members at the meeting. The final business of the meeting was the selection of new Board Directors to replace the four outgoing Directors: Da-Lin Zhang, Chung-Lin Shie, Xiaofeng Li, and Colin Shen. The following four members - Long Chiu, Menglin Jin, Henry Juang, and Sarah Lu - were nominated and unanimously approved at the meeting to serve as this year's Board Directors.
The rest of day was devoted to scientific presentations. All presenters showed great care in their preparations and gave informative talks. In particular, three Ph.D. students, Yixiang Nie, Jun Shen and Wen Long, offered excellent, thorough presentations. The abstracts of all speakers are included in the pdf file below:
